Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Policy

At BIMCO we embrace inclusion, equity and diversity as core values.

Diversity acknowledges all the individual human qualities and dimensions which make an individual unique, for example educational background, career experience, personal values, family background, race, sex, gender, age, sexual orientation, disabilities, religious beliefs, political beliefs, etc.

Inclusion is the act of welcoming, supporting, respecting, and valuing all individuals and groups.

Equity implies an understanding of differences and creates equal opportunity for all individuals by compensating as appropriate for individual challenges – that might otherwise stand in the way of equal opportunity.

At BIMCO we:

  • Believe that our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion is essential and enables us to achieve our mission with greater impact, and that our relationships with our members and with others benefit from equitable and inclusive practices
  • Believe that every employee has a responsibility to respect the dignity and diversity of all people, to listen and to seek to understand diverse opinions and to be more inclusive and collaborative with one another. We treat the people we work with respectfully, and individual differences and the contributions of staff are both recognised and valued
  • Take steps to eradicate bullying, harassment, victimisation and unlawful discrimination from the organisation.

As we progress on our DEI journey, we will strive to ensure that:

  • Everyone in our community can access our services regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, disability or other characteristics
  • We continually learn about best practices in DEI within our sector and wider and, where appropriate, translate them into best practices for BIMCO
  • Staff have access to DEI training resources, are aware of best practices and can act in accordance with those best practices
  • We have a structure in place to safeguard and support those who need to report incidents
  • All employees are aware of their rights and responsibilities under the DEI policy and the law of the country in which they are employed.

This DEI policy is supported by senior management and will be reviewed at least on an annual basis.
