Surveys

We are always keen to hear feedback from members. Your feedback is important to us and helps shape what we do.

Please send feedback to info@bimco.org.

We also carry out membership surveys from time to time. The most recent survey was carried out in January 2026.

Whale Strike Mitigation Survey

BIMCO has launched a survey to address awareness of voluntary whale protection measures. The goal is to gather industry insights on experiences, challenges and solutions to whale-ship collisions and engage our members in designing and building solutions that sit comfortably alongside practical issues related to daily operations.

Thank you for your continued engagement and feedback.

The European Maritime Skills Forum (EMSF), established in January 2025 by the European maritime social partners ECSA and ETF, was created to address the growing workforce and skills gap in the European maritime sector—driven by the green and digital transition and compounded by structural recruitment and retention challenges. EMSF provides a structured platform aligning industry, unions, maritime education and training (MET) providers, and policymakers around future skills needs and sustainable career pathways.

Through our involvement in the Maritime Just Transition Taskforce (MJTTF), the Decarb Hub is participating to the Green Skills Workstream research activity focused on identifying competency gaps across stakeholder groups. In this context, we have developed and launched three targeted questionnaires aimed at:

  • Cadets
  • Officers
  • Shipping Companies

The purpose is to map the current level of green skills acquisition and identify gaps in competency development related to alternative fuels, energy efficiency, and the broader transition.

The aggregated findings will be presented at the EMSF Plenary in Brussels on 31 March 2026 and are expected to contribute to:

  • Evidence-informed EU regulatory development
  • Greater EU–IMO alignment on training standards
  • Future-proofing of MET curricula
  • Strengthened institutional readiness and oversight capacity
  • Integration of mentoring as a structured competency enabler.

The deadline for submissions is Friday, 13 March 2026.

Ship's propellor

A Tripartite Working Group has been formed by representatives of shipowners and managers, IACS classification societies and European and Far East shipyards, to encourage the reduction of underwater radiated noise levels through voluntary measures. ICS and BIMCO kindly request participation in the Tripartite Working Group’s survey to assess the existing levels of uptake of the IMO guidelines.
