The recent meeting of the BIMCO Chartering Network covered issues such as the upcoming Energy Saving Device Retrofit Addendum, the IMO MEPC on GHG and the Net Zero Framework (NZF) as well as war risk and sanctions clauses.
On 8 May 2026, an online meeting took place in the BIMCO Chartering Network., which has been running for a few years now. At the meeting, information was shared about BIMCO’s ongoing work on a draft BIMCO Energy Saving Device Retrofit Addendum. The draft handles key issues such as risk allocation and performance protocols in a flexible way, and the work will continue.
The meeting also included an update on the result from the recent IMO MEPC on GHG and the Net Zero Framework NZF. An update on this topic can be found in our latest BIMCO Brief video, which gives a quick overview of the outcome.
Finally, the network exchanged views on topical issues related to war risk and sanctions clauses. Especially the war risk clauses are being tested in the current situation in the Strait of Hormuz. The network talked about the applicability of these clauses. Based on the dialogue in the network, BIMCO will consider looking into issues related to the trapping and blocking of ships, which right now is a major issue in the Persian Gulf.
The goal of the BIMCO Chartering Network is to discuss and review developments impacting members engaged in chartering ships as a core part of their business. If you are a member with an interest in this, you are very welcome to join the network.
