Have Your Say EV Carriage

Industry consultation on new BIMCO Clause for Carriage of Electric Vehicles: Have your say!

Published
26 March 2026

The BIMCO subcommittee developing standard clauses for carriage of Electric Vehicles (EVs) and batteries has finalised its first draft clause for industry consultation. We are now inviting industry stakeholders to review and comment.

Industry consultations are a central part of BIMCO’s approach to developing widely acceptable standard contractual solutions, and a chance for all industry stakeholders to have their say and affect change.

This Carriage of Electric Vehicles Clause 2026 is developed as a unified contractual foundation for EV carriage which may be used in back-to-back settings. This clause addresses current commercial challenges relating to carriage of new and used EVs onboard RoRo vessels and car carriers.

The drafting has been prepared by members of a BIMCO subcommittee comprising shipowners, operators, OEM representatives, P&I clubs, legal advisers and technical experts:

Cynthia Hosken Serpa - Spliethoff Transport B.V. (Chairperson)

Eddie Zhang (Zhang Zhan Hao) - COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers Co., Ltd.

Philip Bacon - Siem Shipping UK Ltd.

Thomas Busch - Reederei F. Laeisz G.m.b.H.
